In this article, I read about how a Missouri gun accessories and parts retailers facebook and instagram pages were suddenly shut down. This act is taking away these people's first amendment right of freedom of speech and shunning their second amendment right to carry a gun. These amendments are protected and withheld by our government, so people's social media accounts should not be deleted because of posts.

In this article, it is talking about Hillary Clinton using her own email to send private government information. Hillary claimed that former Secretary of State Colin Powell told her to use her personal email. Powell is now saying this is not true and that Hillary and her people "pinned" this on him. Needless to say, this was against the law and actions should be taken to address the situation. By using this email she is threatening the security of our government and the people.

In this article, I read about president Obama giving Iran $400 million to release American prisoners. This is very frightening and a bad move because he just personally funded a country known for terror attacks. There is also a U.S. policy to not pay ransoms for prisoners because it will then just entice terrorists to capture our citizens and hold them hostage. By saving a few Americans from imprisonment, he has now threatened the safety of all of America by funding them to make more weapons. Another part of this article was that Senator Mark Kirk said Obama was "acting like the drug dealer in chief" about this cash deal he made with Iran. This is both funny and rude, but Senator Kirk is simply utilizing his blessing of liberty obtained by our government.

In this article, I read about the transgender bathroom situation. A federal judge has temporarily blocked president Obama's administration from letting transgender students go in the bathroom that they chose. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said, "This president is attempting to rewrite the laws enacted by the elected representatives of the people, and is threatening to take away federal funding from schools to force them to conform." Obama trying to take away funding from schools who don't allow the transgender bathroom's is taking away their voice, or threaten their rights of liberty and populism. Taking away the states school funding is unconstitutional and unfair to those children in these states.

In this story, I read about how Donald Trump was softening his opinions and ideas on illegal immigration. Donald still plans to build the wall, but his new campaign manager now says that his plan to deport 10 million illegal immigrants is "to be determined". He now says that he plans to grant illegals a pathway to citizenship if they have first returned to their native countries. I agree that people should not be allowed into our country illegally, but I don't believe immigration is a problem as long as they first become a citizen. Donald now saying he plans to grant citizenship to illegals if they have first returned to their native countries shows his growing value in egalitarianism. All men are created equally and they should be allowed to apply for citizenship if they please.

Most and Least Religious States

I learned from this Pew Research article on the Most and Least Religious States that the southern states are the most religious, whereas states in the top north (New England area) are the least religious. Alabama is actually the most religious state in the United States. Researches measured "how religious" someone is by asking them if they pray daily, if they say religion is important in their lives, say they attended worship services once a week, and say they believe in God with absolute certainty. I think political scientists are interested in this information because it gives them an idea on how the states stand politically and how the people vote. The more religious states vote Republican almost every year, whereas the least religious states vote Democrat almost every year. Knowing this information helps political scientists better predict the voting habits of Americans.

What We've Done in AP Gov

One of the first things we did in AP Gov was take two quizzes on Pew Research. The first quiz was a Political Typology Quiz. This quiz said I was a Steadfast Conservative, which didn't come as too much of a surprise to me. The second quiz was the News Quiz to test how much we knew about fairly recent history and the news. I did better than I had expected which was pleasing to me. After this, we did an activity in class where we looked at newspaper picture clippings and decided whether the pictures were political or not. The last activity we did in class was look at graphs and write down the trends of the graphs. We learned about census data, the Graying of America, and the Regional Shift.
